Flowerfield Arts Centre is delighted to welcome The Breath to Portstewart on Saturday, 24 February. This captivating evening promises to deliver a mesmerizing blend of folk influences, evocative vocals, and stunning guitar work.
Described by Folk Radio.com as "rolling across the senses like clouds caress low hills – always moving, changing, evolving; and utterly fascinating”, The Breath is a musical journey led by singer/flautist Ríoghnach Connolly and Manchester-based guitarist Stuart McCallum. The duo seamlessly merges Irish folk roots with McCallum's mesmerizing guitar riffs, creating a sound that is hypnotic, lush, and powerfully raw.
The Guardian praises Ríoghnach Connolly's "jaw-droppingly stunning, woozy voice”, which weaves soulful vocals into the electronic tapestry of Stuart McCallum's distinctive sound-world. The Breath's music is described as a fusion of folk roots with different horizons, promising a performance that is both hauntingly beautiful and raucously punchy.
The Breath have released three albums on Peter Gabriel’s Real World label, with their latest offering, 'Land of My Other’, featuring 10 original tracks of raw, gorgeous, acoustic-minded music. Ríoghnach Connolly has been recognized with an RTÉ Folk Award nomination for Best Folk Singer, and she won Folk Singer of the Year at the 2019 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
