MAG Workshop Review (20 April): Supporting the Coleraine Future Town Fund

As part of the Coleraine Future Town Fund (CFTF) Board’s programme of engagement with key stakeholders, partners and the community, the Ministerial Advisory Group (MAG) was invited to engage with the Board and share their views on the Board’s long-term Vision and Regeneration Plan and the prioritised 4-year investment plan for delivery.

Why MAG was invited

At the request of the CFTF Board, the Ministerial Advisory Group (MAG) convened a Review Panel for a Workshop Review on 20 April. As there are no specific designs or projects at this stage, the session was designed to provide independent, impartial guidance on emerging ideas for Coleraine town centre.

The Panel was chaired by Ciarán Mackel, with Roisin Donnelly, Eoin Farrell, James Hennessey and Justine Daly bringing a range of disciplines and experience.

Who took part

CFTF Board Members, the CFTF team and Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council officers participated in the workshop, which included a focused walkabout in and around the town centre.

What was discussed

  • Key assets and opportunities within Coleraine town centre and its neighbourhood connections.
  • Current hurdles and constraints—and how they may be addressed through phased, deliverable interventions.
  • Approaches to maximising the impact of the Pride in Place funding, including how emerging projects can work together as a coherent programme.
  • The potential to deliver a more sustainable, people-focused town centre, supported by improvements to the public realm and the wider landscape and townscape.

What happens next

The CFTF programme is moving from early engagement and plan development into the next phase of co-designing and developing a set of strategic projects and programmes for Coleraine. This includes outlining emerging projects (“plan on a page” summaries), assessing and prioritising options, and finalising a 4-year investment plan to support delivery.
