Flooding Guidance
The public should report any incidents of flooding to the Flood Incident Line T. 0300 2000 100. This number is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You don't have to contact the Rivers Agency, Roads Service or NI Water. When you ring, a member of staff will take all your details and contact the appropriate agency on your behalf.
This is a non-emergency number. If anyone is in real danger, then the emergency services should be contacted on 999.
Electricity Problems: if you are having problems with your electricity, please contact the NIE Customer Helpline on 0845 7643 643
Blocked Sewers: if you think there is a blockage or if your property has been flooded by a public sewer, please call Northern Ireland Water on 03457 440088, the helpline is available 24 hours a day. Flooding (SEFA)
In order for affected householders to apply under the Scheme of Emergency Financial Assistance (SEFA) for flooding, the Council must first activate the SEFA scheme.
Householders who are severely inconvenienced by flooding caused by rainfall must notify the Council as soon as possible (and not later than 7 calendar days) if they wish to apply for a payment under the scheme.
A payment of £1,000 to individual householders severely inconvenienced by flooding caused by rainfall can be made, subject to the individual household applicant fulfilling the criteria of the scheme.
Any householder affected by flooding who wishes to submit an application under the scheme must notify the Council as soon as possible and not later than 7 calendar days from the last recorded date of their flooding incident.
After a Flood – Clearing Up
If your property has been flooded You should only start cleaning when you're certain it’s safe to return to your home after a flood. Get an electrician to check your electrical appliances and a Gas Safe-registered engineer to inspect the gas supply. Always wear protective clothing to clean parts of your home contaminated by flood water.
