From aromatic coffees and locally produced oils to sushi, sweet treats and award-winning jams, visitors got a taste of the Borough’s diverse food and drink offering at a ‘Meet the Maker’ event in Limavady on Saturday 17 October, as part of The Giant Taste of Causeway Coast and Glens celebrations.

Hosted at Limavady Visitor Information Centre, the event brought together local producers to offer free samples, share their stories and introduce visitors to the people and passion behind their products.

Visitors sampled coffees from Causeway Coffee and Broighter Gold rapeseed oils, alongside sweet treats from Ballykenver Farmshop and Kitchen, Dundarave Estate and Irish Black Butter. There were also seasonings from Partie de Moi, tallow products from Moyletra Farm, sushi rolls from Shi Zen and Distiller’s Sauce’s famous pickle sauce. Gary from Tartine also launched his award-winning range of jams at the event.

Hands-on experiences added to the fun, with a chutney-making taster and a chocolate decorating activity giving younger visitors the chance to become mini chocolatiers.

Visitors also explored the Roe Valley Speciality Market at Drumceatt Square, discovering locally made food, handmade crafts, fine art and speciality products from local traders as part of the Giant Taste celebrations.

Deputy Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Alderman Sandra Hunter said: “It was a pleasure to visit Limavady Visitor Information Centre and meet some of the Borough’s wonderful food producers.

“The ‘Meet the Maker’ event and taster workshops offered a great opportunity to sample local produce, discover new products and hear the stories behind the businesses that make our local food and drink offering so special.”

Caroline Carey, Visitor Services Advisor, said: “We showcase and sell local food produce in our Visitor Information Centres throughout the year, so it was a pleasure to welcome so many local producers to Limavady to share their stories, showcase their products and introduce visitors to the fantastic range of food and drink available across the Borough. Thank you to all the producers who took part, the customers who came along and everyone who helped make the event such an enjoyable celebration of our local food and drink.”

The Giant Taste of Causeway Coast and Glens continues throughout October, with supper clubs, afternoon teas, markets and chocolate-themed experiences celebrating the destination’s outstanding local food and drink.
