Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council launch Age Friendly Survey

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has launched an Age Friendly Survey as it works with the Public Health Agency to create an age friendly community.
This type of environment aims to enable people of all ages to actively participate in activities while treating everyone with respect, regardless of their age. It’s a place that makes it easy for older people to stay connected to those that are important to them.
Many aspects of settings and services can contribute to the participation, health, independence and security of older persons. Becoming an age-friendly community is not a defined state or end point but rather a continuing journey towards adapting structures and processes to support the health and wellbeing of older people.
The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Alderman Mark Fielding said: “Many cities and communities are already taking active steps towards becoming more age-friendly. We are no different in Causeway Coast and Glens and will use the data received via this survey to develop an Age Friendly Action Plan for the Borough. After a very difficult year for everyone we hope that this information will help to shape the Age Friendly programme for 2021 onwards and assist the wider community as we all recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Sarah Reid, Senior Officer for Health & Social Wellbeing Improvement with the PHA said: “The Public Health Agency is very pleased to be working collaboratively with Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council as part of its regional Age Friendly approach. While this work has been developed over recent years, in line with the World Health Organisation model, the importance of improving inclusion and engagement opportunities for older people has been brought into sharp focus over recent months. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the increasing importance for all ages to stay healthy and active, and in particular the need to support older people to participate and keep connected to people that are important to them.”
Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council wants to help improve the quality of life for older people living in the Borough while learning about the issues you face and how you are managing with changes to everyday life. You can offer invaluable insights to key challenges and further engagement.
The survey, which is aimed at those aged 55+, can be completed via the Council website using this link https://arcg.is/059XvL0. Alternatively, you can download a hard copy using the links below and return it to us, or have a survey posted out to your home. Full details are available on the website.
The survey will be open from Monday 14th December and until 5pm on Friday 29th January 2021.
