Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council is inviting residents to take part in a new Halloween Costume Swap in Ballymoney, giving local families the opportunity to save money while helping to reduce waste.

Members of the public can now donate clean, gently worn Halloween costumes at Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre and Riada House Council Offices in Ballymoney.

Donation drop-off boxes are available at the reception desks and will remain open until Friday 23 October.

Following the collection period, a free pop-up shop will take place on Saturday 24 October at Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre from 11:00am. Families are invited to come along and choose a ‘new-to-you’ costume completely free of charge, on a first come, first served basis while stocks last.

Council staff will check and sort all donated items ahead of the event to ensure costumes are clean and in good condition.

Causeway Coast and Glens Environmental Resource Officer, Fiona Watters, encouraged everyone to get involved:

“Halloween is a wonderful time for celebration, but costumes are often only worn once before being put away or thrown out. By choosing to swap rather than buy new, we can give costumes a new lease of life, reduce waste and help families save money.

“We encourage everyone to have a clear-out, donate any unwanted Halloween costumes and come along to the swap. Together, we can help make Halloween more sustainable and affordable for our local community.”

The Halloween Costume Swap aims to reduce waste by encouraging people to reuse costumes, while also providing families with a free and sustainable alternative to buying a new costume.
