Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Age Friendly Coordinator, Stephanie Scott, and Walking for All Officer, Colleen Martin, have been working closely together over the past month to support older people to stay informed, connected and active within their communities.

Most recently, the team visited Cloughmills Community Action Team to share information about what it means to be an Age Friendly community and how local residents can play a key role in shaping and influencing future initiatives. The session provided an opportunity to discuss Council’s Age Friendly Strategy, highlight the eight World Health Organisation Age Friendly domains, and encourage members to take part in consultation, partnership working, and community-led projects that support positive ageing.

Alongside this, Colleen highlighted the Walking for All programme, explaining the benefits of regular, inclusive walking opportunities for physical health, mental wellbeing, and social connection. Participants were invited to consider training as volunteer Walk Leaders, with the aim of establishing a regular weekly walking group in Cloughmills to help local residents stay active and reduce social isolation.

Both initiatives share a common goal – empowering communities to create supportive, accessible environments where people can age well and remain active participants in community life.
