Supported for the first time through the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Tourism Events Fund Programme, the Red Sails Festival returns to Portstewart from Sunday 19th July with a week of family fun and free events for all ages.
From great bands, dancers and comedy performers to a children's fancy dress parade, sandcastle and talent competitions, there's something for everyone!
The festival launches on Sunday, July 19, with the Blessing of the Boats at the Bandstand. This moving tradition celebrates the power of the sea in memory of those lost. It will honour the first responders who work tirelessly to keep our shores safe. Expect plenty of boats in the bay on Sunday afternoon!
Musical acts perform every evening at the Bandstand featuring new acts ‘Pure Blarney’ and ‘The Reillys’. In a festival first the Sensational 70s Showstopper Band will take you on a rollercoaster ride through the super cool 1970’s.
For younger festival-goers, there’s a packed programme of children’s activities, including the The Lego Digital Animation and Iconic Street Dance Workshops. There’s also a kite display, nature walk and butterfly safari taking place at Portstewart Beach.
Older children can enjoy an array of sports at the Warren, take part in the fishing competition, or even have a safe dip in the sea with Swim Ulster.
Friday afternoon will see the ever popular ‘Wee man from Strabane’, Hugo Duncan with his show at the Bandstand.
The grand finale on Saturday features the vibrant Children’s Parade. A Maritime Heritage Exhibition, the Causeway Shantymen, Alastair Scott Ceilidh Band, Innova Dance Group, Victoria Lagan Dancers and Mexican Dancers complete the lineup.
As evening falls, enjoy a final celebration of music and dance before the breath-taking fireworks display at 10.30pm.
The festival is proud to partner with Flowerfield Arts Centre, offering art workshops, People of Portstewart Exhibition and NI Opera in the Park. Meanwhile, the National Trust invites visitors to take part in the activities and join the fabulous Mae Murray Foundation at the Strand.
