In early December, representatives from Council paid a visit to see Mrs Holly Irwin and her family, following her 100th birthday.

Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Oliver McMullan and Council’s Age Friendly Coordinator, Stephanie Scott, both spent time with Holly and her loved ones at The Cottage Care Home – a fitting way to honour a life well-lived.

Holly was born in County Roscommon, Connaught on 24th November 1925. After a life spent working across Ireland with the Ulster Bank and raising a family, she eventually settled in Portrush for many happy years before coming to The Cottage Care Home in Coleraine.

Speaking after the visit, Councillor McMullan said: “I wanted to visit Holly to personally wish her many happy returns – it’s a privilege to recognise such an important milestone.”

Council’s Age Friendly Coordinator, Stephanie Scott, added: “Meeting Holly and her family reminds us why our Age Friendly programme matters so much. It’s about honouring our older residents, making sure they feel valued and connected within our community.”

From all of us at Council: congratulations to Holly on this wonderful milestone, and heartfelt thanks to her family and carers for their continued kindness and support.
