Town Plans for Portrush and Portstewart have been developed following a recent consultation process with local stakeholders in both towns by Third Sector Connect Consultancy on behalf of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.
The Town Plans for both locations provide a clear, community-informed vision for the future. It is the first plan of its kind for both Portrush and Portstewart and was shaped through a detailed process of engagement with residents, community groups, businesses, and stakeholders. This included public consultation events, surveys, and direct discussions, all designed to ensure each plan reflects the needs and ambitions of those who live and work in the respective towns.
Each individual Town Plan identifies key priorities and proposed actions across areas such as housing, youth provision, shared spaces, transport, environmental sustainability, and economic development. It aims to bring together council services, community initiatives, and funding opportunities in a coordinated way to deliver real change on the ground.
It also sets out a framework for partnership working and ongoing dialogue between residents, service providers, and decision-makers to develop and implement the actions identified in each town. Ongoing work with the Town Centre Forums in Portrush and Portstewart will ensure that the Plans are kept live and that projects will evolve to meet the needs of each town centre.
Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Oliver McMullan, highlighted the importance of the plans saying: “The development of Town Plans for Portrush and Portstewart is welcome news and will be a significant step forward for the continued growth of the area.
“The communities in both towns will greatly benefit from improvements in areas such as housing, shared spaces and better transport links
“I look forward to seeing the plans progress and the positive impact they will have for our residents.”
The Town Plans for both Portrush and Portstewart have been designed to align with and support the delivery of the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Community Plan’s objectives. By doing so, we ensure that local needs and ambitions feed into the broader regional strategy, and that public services and investment can be better coordinated to create real, lasting impact in our towns.
