Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council is delighted to announce the launch of Positive Ageing Month 2025, taking place throughout October.
This month-long initiative celebrates the invaluable contributions of those aged 50 and over to our communities and encourages older adults to stay active, connected, and engaged.
The theme for Positive Ageing Month 2025 is "The Joy of Ageing", which celebrates the contribution and agency of older people. This theme aims to highlight the positive aspects of ageing, and the significant roles older individuals play in our communities and families.
The programme of events across the Borough has been developed by the Council’s Age Friendly Coordinator, Stephanie Scott, working in partnership with a wide range of organisations including the Causeway Coast and Glens Museum Service, Causeway Loneliness Network, Libraries NI, and the Causeway Coast and Glens Active Life Programme.
Throughout October, older adults will be able to take part in an exciting calendar of activities including tea dances, storytelling, health fair, painting classes, exercise classes, workshops, museum talks, library sessions, and social gatherings. Events have been designed to be inclusive, accessible, and enjoyable, catering to a wide variety of interests and abilities.
Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Oliver McMullan, said: “Positive Ageing Month is about recognising the skills, knowledge and experiences that older people bring to our communities. The programme offers opportunities to connect, learn, and stay active, and I would encourage everyone to get involved and celebrate the positive impact of ageing.”
Council’s Age Friendly Coordinator, Stephanie Scott, added: “The theme ‘The Part We Play’ is a reminder of the valuable contributions made by older people every day. From volunteering and supporting families to sharing traditions and experiences, older people enrich community life. Positive Ageing Month is designed to support wellbeing, reduce loneliness, and provide enjoyable opportunities for connection.”
Full details of the Positive Ageing Month calendar of events will be available on the Council’s website and through community networks in the lead-up to October.
