Young people from Roe Valley Residents Association (RVRA) gained an insight into Council life last week during a visit to meet the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.

Mayor, Councillor Dawn Huggins, welcomed the young people, who are currently taking part in an employment skills programme.

Mayor Councillor Dawn Huggins said: “Supporting our young people to develop the skills, confidence and experience they need for the future is incredibly important.

“I commend RVRA for the work they are doing to help young adults prepare for employment, develop greater independence and recognise their own potential.

“This visit provided an opportunity for the young people to learn more about the work of Council, the range of roles available and the different career opportunities that could be open to them in the future.”

Youth Leader Caroline Weaving added: “Our young people are developing a wide range of skills to help them move towards employment and greater independence.

“Alongside practical skills such as CV building and preparing for work, we place a strong focus on building confidence and developing essential life skills.

“I thank the Council for facilitating this visit. It was a great opportunity for the group to find out more about how the Council works, the different roles within it and the opportunities available to them.”
