The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens has put his best foot forward by backing a new walking campaign.
‘Walking for All’ is a community walking programme designed to help people of all ages and abilities enjoy short, regular walks in local spaces. The project is supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
Colleen Martin is the Walking for All Officer for Causeway Coast and Glens, and last Friday the Mayor, Councillor Oliver McMullan, joined Colleen on one of the weekly walks in Cloughmills.
Mayor McMullan said: “I was delighted to join Colleen on one of the walks, which are now taking place across Causeway Coast and Glens.
“Events like these are a wonderful way to encourage people of all ages and abilities to take part in regular exercise. They are not only good for our physical health, but also for our mental wellbeing, as they encourage us to connect with others.”
Colleen is now actively seeking residents and community groups interested in leading walks on a regular basis.
If you enjoy walking and would like to help others feel confident and included, becoming a Walk Leader is a great way to support your community.
Full training and ongoing support are provided, and you do not need to be super fit or an expert walker, just friendly, reliable and enthusiastic.
The Cloughmills walk takes place every Friday at 12 noon, meeting at The Mill, Cloughmills. Everyone is welcome.
