Mayor’s recognition for Food Banks and Christians Against Poverty volunteers

Fri, November 11, 2022

The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has met with representatives from local Food Banks and Christians Against Poverty volunteers at a special event held in Cloonavin.

The gathering provided an opportunity to recognise the invaluable work they carry out, and hear more about how the ongoing cost of living crisis is affecting local communities.

Speaking afterwards, Councillor Ivor Wallace said: “Organisations like our local foodbanks and CAP have never been more important, as an increasing number of householders are experiencing food and fuel poverty.

“This event was an opportunity for me to express my thanks on behalf of the Borough, and recognise the importance of what these charities do to promote and enhance the wellbeing of our local communities.”

“It is vital that people know that help is available across the Borough, and no-one should feel like they are struggling alone.

“We are fortunate to have these services at this time so if they could help to ease your difficulties please remember they are here to help.

“Volunteers want to support you, and you can be assured of a warm, non-judgemental welcome along with practical assistance and advice, which will make a big difference to you.”

As part of its ongoing Where to Turn campaign, Council is working closely with a network of advice centres, foodbanks and other organisations which exist across Causeway Coast and Glens to ensure that people can receive wraparound support based on their individual needs.

Residents are reminded that advice services can be accessed via email, telephone, and face-to-face appointments.  If you, or someone you know, has concerns about debt, benefit entitlement or a drop in income, or need advice about an employment or housing issue, you can contact the organisations listed below for free confidential advice.
