Cloonavin Council Offices will light up purple to mark the end of Positive Ageing Month, celebrating older people and highlighting the range of activities, services and opportunities available to older residents across the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough.
This year's Positive Ageing Month theme, ‘What's on your doorstep?’, encouraged older people to find out more about what is happening in their own communities and make the most of local opportunities.
A varied programme of activities took place across the Borough throughout the month, delivered by organisations and community partners including Libraries NI, Dementia Concern Causeway, Sure Start and many others. Activities ranged from opportunities to get active and socialise to accessing information, support and learning, showcasing the range of services and opportunities available locally.
Stephanie Scott, Age Friendly Coordinator for Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, said:
“Positive Ageing Month has been a great opportunity to recognise the work taking place across our Borough and highlight the many opportunities available to older people.
“Our theme this year, ‘What's on your doorstep?’, was about encouraging people to look at what's happening in their own communities and make the most of what is available locally.
“It has been encouraging to see so many organisations and community partners involved, providing opportunities for older people to meet others, stay active, learn new things and get involved. There is a lot happening across Causeway Coast and Glens, and we want to encourage more people to find out what's on offer and take part.”
Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Dawn Huggins, said:
“I am pleased to see Cloonavin lit up purple to mark Positive Ageing Month and recognise the important contribution older people make to our Borough.
“Older residents play a valuable role in our communities, sharing their experience, knowledge and skills. This month has been an opportunity to celebrate that contribution and highlight the many ways people can remain active, connected and involved in later life.
“The programme has shown just how much is happening across our Borough. I would encourage older residents to find out what's available in their local area and make the most of the opportunities on offer.”
The Council's Age Friendly programme will continue to work with local organisations, partners and older people to support communities where people can age well, stay connected and remain involved in community life.
