Santa set to light up the Borough this Christmas

Santa Claus has contacted Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council to confirm the dates that he will be making his special appearances to switch on the festive lighting within the Borough.

While the months of November and December are busy times for Santa, he always makes sure he visits the towns of the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough to add some welcome sparkle at this time of year.

His sleigh will be making its first stop in Ballymoney on Thursday 19th November where the programme for the evening will feature Beatz Entertainment, the NRC Choir, soloist Yasim Walker and a very special choir from Causeway Down Syndrome Group.

Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Michelle-Knight McQuillan who will be assisting Santa with the big switch on said, ‘’ I am delighted as Mayor of the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough to welcome Santa to the Town of Ballymoney as he commence his festive duties. I will be supporting him as he travels through our Borough bringing joy and happiness to our residents wherever he goes’’.

Following the lighting up of the Town at 7.30pm, Santa will take up residence in his very own Grotto, where children up to 11 years can receive an early Christmas gift.  

The next evening, Santa will be making his way to Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre, Drumceatt Square, Limavady to flick the switch and turn on the festive cheer in the Town. Entertainment commences at 6pm with DJ Ned, as the Mayor, Councillor Michelle-Knight McQuillan and Santa will switch on the lights at 7pm.  Everyone is invited to come along and join in all the festive fun in the lead up to Santa, Mrs Claus and the elves’ arrival.

Santa will then stop in Coleraine, as the town stages its switch-on during the evening of Friday 27th November with a fun filled programme hosted by the Q Radio Network. The event will be featuring: Macosquin Primary School choir; a Christmas street parade with 100 children in fancy dress; a live concert; and Santa’s Grotto. The man himself will once again arrive upon his beautiful horse-drawn carriage with the Mayor, Councillor Michelle-Knight McQuillan to switch on the lights on at 7pm.

Ballycastle will welcome Santa on Thursday 3rd December with the programme of entertainment starting at 6.30pm in The Diamond. DJ Jake will be getting everyone into the festive spirit and there will also be a performance from a community choir prior to the lights being switched on at 7.15pm. Following the celebrations, children up to 11 years of age can meet Santa in his Grotto and receive a Christmas gift.

In addition to the programme of the main town celebrations, there will be a number of additional switch-on ceremonies including entertainment taking place in other smaller towns throughout the Borough: Dungiven Community Centre, Sat 28th November, lights on at 6pm; Portrush Station Square, Thursday 3rd December, lights on at 7.30pm; Portstewart Crescent, Friday 4th December, lights on at 5pm; Portballintrae, Saturday 5th December, lights on at 4pm; Kilrea Diamond, Saturday 5th December, lights on at 5pm; Garvagh Corner Stone Park, Wednesday 9th December, lights on at 7.30pm; and Castlerock, Thursday 10th December, lights on at 7pm.
