The 2026 O'Neills Foyle Cup officially got underway yesterday (Monday) as more than 20,000 players, coaches and officials arrived in Derry~Londonderry for the Opening Parade and Welcome Ceremony, launching the biggest tournament in the competition's 34-year history.
Representing a record 1,013 teams from across Ireland, the United Kingdom, Europe and North America, thousands of young footballers marched from Ulster University's Magee Campus through the city centre in a colourful procession celebrating the start of six days of world-class youth football.
Families, friends and spectators lined Northland Road, Great James Street, Strand Road and Waterloo Place before the parade culminated in Guildhall Square, where teams received an official civic welcome from the Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, tournament organisers and title sponsors O'Neills Sportswear.
Attention now turns to the football, with a record 3,942 matches scheduled across more than 60 venues throughout Derry~Londonderry, Strabane, Limavady, Claudy, Greysteel, Coleraine, Dungiven, Castledawson, Inishowen and Donegal.
Boys', girls' and disability competitions from Under-8 through to Under-19 level will take centre stage throughout the week before the tournament concludes with Finals Day on Saturday 25th July.
From humble beginnings as a one-day competition involving just eight teams in 1992, the O'Neills Foyle Cup has grown into one of the world's leading youth football tournaments, attracting clubs from across four continents while remaining true to its grassroots foundations.
More than 200,000 spectators are expected during tournament week, generating a significant economic boost for the North West through tourism, hospitality, retail and visitor spending while showcasing the region to an international audience.

It was wonderful to see so many families, friends and local people lining the route to Guildhall Square to give every team such a warm welcome.

The O'Neills Foyle Cup's impact extends well beyond Derry~Londonderry, with an expanded programme of fixtures taking place across Causeway Coast and Glens, as well as venues throughout County Tyrone and County Donegal.
The tournament will bring thousands of visiting players, coaches, families and supporters to communities across the region, providing a significant boost to tourism, hospitality and local businesses while showcasing the North West to an international audience.
