The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens has hosted a reception to thank the community organisations who operate Council owned community centres across the Borough.
These groups manage centres on a voluntary basis, carrying out all day-to-day operational duties, under a shared management agreement enabling delivery of vital support services to local communities.
The Mayor, Councillor Ciarán McQuillan thanked them for their work saying: “I was humbled to meet representatives from the various volunteer community groups who work alongside Council to provide community services for their local area.
“It was interesting to hear about each of the community centres and learn more about the activities organised for residents.
“I would like to commend everyone involved for the time they give freely, their commitment and for the work to keep these centres open. Their support makes a genuine and tangible difference to local residents, and we are very grateful for their support.”
The variety of community-based activities these volunteer groups provide ranges from luncheon clubs for older people, to over 50’s groups and friendship clubs. The groups also provide community support via parent and toddler groups, youth clubs, warm space hubs and community fridges. With exercise of all types including yoga, and pilates also forming part of the community support on offer.
