Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Dawn Huggins, visited the Buddy Bear Trust last week to see first-hand the valuable support the charity provides to children and young people with cerebral palsy across Northern Ireland.
Alongside Chest, Heart and Stroke, the Buddy Bear Trust is one of the Mayor’s chosen charities for her term in office.
Established in 1988 at the request of parents who wished for their children with cerebral palsy to benefit from Conductive Education, the Buddy Bear Trust continues to provide vital opportunities and support for children and their families.
The charity’s work is particularly close to Mayor Huggins’ heart, as her grandson, Ruairi, aged three, has cerebral palsy.
Councillor Huggins said: “It was a real privilege to visit the Buddy Bear Trust and see first-hand the incredible work being carried out to support children with cerebral palsy and their families.
“As a grandmother to a little boy with cerebral palsy, I know personally how important the right support, encouragement and opportunities can be for both children and those closest to them.
“Meeting the children, families and dedicated team at the Buddy Bear Trust was incredibly special, and it gave me an even greater appreciation of the difference this charity makes in the lives of so many families across Northern Ireland.
“I am proud to support the Buddy Bear Trust as one of my chosen charities during my term as Mayor, and I hope that by raising awareness of its work, we can encourage others to support this wonderful cause.”
