Garvagh Volleyball Club, in partnership with Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council was officially launched on Thursday 1st October at the Jim Watt Centre in Garvagh. The newly formed club will provide boys and girls aged from 12 to18 years of age with the opportunity to learn the fast paced exciting team sport, Volleyball. Club Coach, Jonathan McFadden of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s, Active Communities team said, “Volleyball is a fantastic team sport and has had a long term connection with the Garvagh area, which has produced some fantastic volleyball players in the past. “The club aims to form a competitive junior and senior club where kids will receive expert tuition and advice from a team of experienced coaches, who have all plaid the sport at various levels throughout the United Kingdom and America. “Past players of the sport have committed to help run the junior section of the club from 7.00pm until 8.00pm, every Thursday and possibly pull on the knee pads to participate in the senior section, which takes place from 8.00pm until 9.30pm. “The Jim Watt Centre in Garvagh is the perfect venue to re-launch the sport. I’d encourage as many young people in the area and surrounding areas to come along and learn to play the sport. Volleyball has been an Olympic sport since 1964, on average players jump 300 times in match and it is the second most popular team sport in the world, second only to Football!!” Garvagh Volleyball Club trains each Thursday night at the Jim Watt Centre, Garvagh. The cost to participate is £3.00 per night. The Junior Club for aged 12 to 18 years old takes place from 7.00pm until 8.00pm and the Senior Club for aged 18 years plus will take place from 8.00pm until 9.30pm.
