There is a yellow weather warning in place for strong winds and rain from 9am to 10pm on Tuesday 9th December 2025.

There is also an Amber wind warning in place for extremely strong winds from 2pm to 8pm.

Travel disruption, power cuts, damage to buildings and fallen trees are likely. Please take care, particularly if travelling in coastal areas.

Due to the extreme nature of the weather conditions, we have made the decision to close the following Council facilities for the duration of the warning.

These sites are:

  • Recycling Centres (closed from 2pm today)
  • Ballintoy Harbour
  • Ballycastle Harbour and Marina
  • Anderson Park
  • Riverside Park
  • Christie Park
  • Cottage Wood
  • Ramore Head
  • All outdoor open recreational and sport spaces
  • All Council-owned Play Parks including Riverside and Megaw Park in Ballymoney
  • Rugby Avenue Playing Fields, Coleraine
  • Scroggy Road Playing Fields, Limavady
  • Dungiven 3G
  • Riada 3G and Astro, Ballymoney
  • Ballyreagh Golf Course

We would strongly recommend that members of the public avoid visiting any outdoor sites whether coastal or inland, including beaches and headlands for the duration of the weather warning.

All sites will reopen on Wednesday 10th December 2025, following safety assessments that will take place after the warning has expired.
