Newly elected School Council representatives from St Matthew’s Primary School, Drumsurn, visited Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Civic Headquarters to learn more about local government.

The pupils met the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Dawn Huggins, visited the Council Chamber and had the opportunity to ask questions about their role and how Council works to serve local communities.

Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Dawn Huggins said:
“It was a pleasure to welcome the pupils from St Matthew’s Primary School and see their enthusiasm for learning more about local government. They had some great questions, and it was lovely to see them so engaged in finding out more about my role as Mayor and the work of Council.

“It’s important that young people understand how decisions are made in their communities and know that their voices matter. I hope they enjoyed the visit and feel encouraged to stay curious and involved in their local community.”

The visit was arranged following a request from the school principal to give the newly elected School Council a first-hand insight into local government.
