Ballycastle Leisure Centre is continuing to take shape, with significant progress being made across the building, outdoor facilities and surrounding site.

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council is pleased to provide a further update on the progress of the new Ballycastle Leisure Centre at Quay Road.

The new facility represents a significant investment in leisure and recreation for Ballycastle and the wider community. Designed for people of all ages and abilities, it will provide a modern range of indoor and outdoor facilities, including a 25m four-lane swimming pool, gym and fitness facilities, activity studio, health suite and bouldering wall.

The wider development will also include an Accessible Play Park, Pump Track and walking and cycling provision, creating new opportunities for sport, recreation, health and wellbeing.

Progress across the site

Over the spring and summer months, work has gathered considerable momentum, supported by favourable weather conditions and continued partnership working between the project's key stakeholders.

There has been considerable progress across the site, with key developments including:

  • Pool hall: Installation of the glazing is underway, bringing the external elements of the building closer to completion.
  • Bouldering wall: The wall has been installed and is awaiting its final fixings.
  • Swimming pool and changing facilities: Significant progress has been made, with the majority of tiling now in place.
  • Activity areas: The individual spaces within the building are becoming increasingly defined.
  • Pump Track: The Pump Track is now in place.
  • Accessible Play Park: Work is continuing, with the play area taking shape.
  • Roads, access and landscaping: Works are progressing across the surrounding areas of the development.

What does this mean for the community?

For residents, the progress now visible on site is bringing the plans for the new Leisure Centre closer to reality.

Once complete, the development will provide a wide range of opportunities for people to be active, enjoy leisure time and spend time together, with facilities designed to support different ages and abilities.

From swimming and fitness to climbing, outdoor play, walking and cycling, the new Leisure Centre and surrounding facilities will provide a range of opportunities to support active lifestyles and community wellbeing.

Looking ahead

As the project moves into the autumn and winter period, the focus will increasingly turn towards completing the internal areas and remaining external works.

Work will continue across the building, outdoor facilities, roads, access and landscaping as the development moves towards completion.

Council will continue to provide regular updates as the project progresses. Further information will also be shared on the facilities, activities and programmes that will be available to residents.
