The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens has held a special reception for the Co Londonderry team who were crowned SuperCupNI champions.

Marty Smith’s Co Londonderry side made history as they lifted the trophy in the Boys Premier Section for the first time, securing a 1-0 win over Tigres UANL from Mexico.

Jacob Dallas scored the only goal in the final, which was held at Ballymena Showgrounds in July.

Congratulating the team, Councillor Steven Callaghan said: “Winning the SupercupNI will have been one of the proudest moments in all these young players lives. I am delighted for the boys, but also for their families and the coaching staff who have supported them.

“Their victory was the culmination of a memorable campaign which brought victories over both Glasgow Rangers and Manchester United. On behalf of the entire Borough, I want to congratulate the team on its success.

“Over the years, the SuperCupNI has acted as springboard for many young players on the road to successful footballing careers. Who knows, we may have some stars of the future among this Co Londonderry team – watch this space!”
