The Mayor has held a reception for the young players from Portstewart FC Academy in recognition of their recent Minor Vase win at the SuperCupNI tournament.
The boys, all aged under 14 years old recently celebrated the win after competing in their first ever Super Cup NI tournament.
Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Steven Callaghan, congratulated the boys saying: “It’s always heartwarming for me to see sporting success from children of such a young age.
“We know that SuperCupNI has brought stars of the future to the Borough over the years, and it is my hope that the players in this team enjoy continued success.
“Well done to all the support staff at Portstewart FC Academy, family and friends who have all no doubt supported this winning team in their endeavours.”
While visiting Council’s Civic Headquarters, the members of the winning team were also able to ask the Mayor some questions about his role and enjoyed chatting to him about how hard they had worked to achieve this historic win.
Academy Chairman Steven Walls said: “I’d like to thank the Mayor for recognising the team and for his hospitality. I’m delighted at the success of the under 14’s and I look forward to the under 13’s following in their footsteps!”
Portstewart FC Academy currently has over 200 children registered and has opportunities for children of all ages. The club’s annual Registration Fun Day takes place on Sunday 27th August and more details are available via their Facebook page.
