Applications now open for HGV and Bus Academy in Causeway Coast and Glens

Causeway Coast and Glens Labour Market Partnership (LMP) has launched its new HGV and Bus Academy aimed at those who are currently unemployed.
The Academy will fund 30 participants to complete either a HGV (Cat C) or Bus (Cat D) licence including medical examination, DVLA, CPC, Cat C / Cat D Driver Training costs, and includes interviews with employers and employability support.
The programme, which is fully funded by the Department for Communities and Department of the Economy, has been designed to respond to a current skilled labour shortage in the transport sector.
To apply for the HGV and Bus Academy you must:
Be a resident in the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council area;
Be aged over 21;
Be eligible to work in the UK;
Be willing to undertake a medical examination;
Hold a full, valid Northern Ireland Driving Licence.
Be currently unemployed or at risk of redundancy.
Access NI checks will be required for candidates who want to complete the bus driver training.
Welcoming the initiative, the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Ivor Wallace said: “This is an exciting opportunity for eligible candidates as the academy will provide all the necessary training, theory and practical learning needed to pass the HGV or bus driver’s test and greatly enhance their employability and future prospects.
“I would encourage anyone with an interest in starting their driving career to get their application in before the January 16th closing date”
