Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has paid tribute to Coleraine Football Club's Irish Cup heroes during a special event held in Coleraine this morning.

The Council event, organised in partnership with Coleraine Connect, followed a Notice of Motion proposed by Alderman Mark Fielding and seconded by Councillor Tanya Elder, calling on Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council to formally recognise the achievements of Ruaidhri Higgins' Irish Cup-winning side.

Speaking at the event, Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Dawn Huggins, said:

"The Irish Cup victory was a proud moment not only for Coleraine Football Club but for the entire Borough.

"We are all immensely proud of your success, and I would like to thank you for taking time out of your pre-match preparations to join us this morning."

The celebration event featured a question-and-answer session with Ruaidhri Higgins and Club captain Lyndon Kane, as well as a step back in time with former Coleraine players, giving supporters the chance to celebrate the Club's rich history alongside its latest success.

A football-themed trail hunt, keepy-uppy challenge and football inflatables kept young Coleraine fans entertained throughout the day, while supporters of all ages enjoyed the opportunity to meet the players and pose for photographs with the team and the Irish Cup, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Chairman of Coleraine Connect, Jonny Fielding added: "As a lifelong Coleraine FC supporter, it was brilliant to be at Windsor Park and witness Coleraine lift the Irish Cup.

“So to help bring today's celebration to the town and see so many supporters come together to honour the team was equally special.

"It was a privilege for Coleraine Connect to work alongside Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council to deliver this event. Days like today show the power of football to bring a community together, while also showcasing everything that’s great about our town. Seeing families, young supporters, local businesses and lifelong fans celebrating together in Coleraine is something I am immensely proud of."
