Four emerging writers from the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough were again selected to attend the John Hewitt International Summer School in Armagh.
The annual Festival of Literature, Arts and Politics, took place from 28th July - 2nd August, at The Market Place Theatre & Arts Centre.
The festival, whose theme for 2025 was: ‘Our Country also: Difference and Belonging’ played host to internationally acclaimed writers and thinkers who provided talks, readings and creative writing workshops.
This year, these included local award-winning writer Bernie McGill and local academic and poet Kathleen McCracken.
Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Oliver McMullan said: “The acclaimed writer John Hewitt is long associated with the Glens of Antrim and Cushendun and Cushendall, where he lived for some years.
“He loved the area, and as a proud Glens man, I am delighted to honour this by continuing our valuable partnership with the John Hewitt Society and supporting emerging writers in the Causeway Coast and Glens.
“I’d like to congratulate the talented recipients of this bursary support and wish them the very best in their writing journey.
Speaking after the Summer School, local poet and Alderman Yvonne Boyle, who promoted the bursaries said: “I was delighted to meet this year’s group of bursary holders from across the Borough. Their enthusiasm and talent is inspiring.
“At a time when the arts continue to be under pressure this week was a celebration of creativity and literary peer support.
“Thanks to Causeway Coast and Glens Council who enable residents of the Borough to apply for this valuable support each year.’
