Causeway Coast and Glens is nominated for awards through the BBC Countryfile Magazine Awards 2015/16

The Causeway Coast and Glens has been shortlisted for two awards with Countryfile Magazine Awards 2015/2016. This is an amazing opportunity which has been recognised by BBC and hopefully supported by voters from the borough, Northern Ireland and anyone who has visited here.

The categories are Holiday Destination of the year, and Heritage Site of the year for the Dunluce Castle.

HOLIDAY DESTINATION OF THE YEAR AWARD Causeway Coast and Glens is shortlisted competing against Suffolk, Snowdonia, Dumfries, Pembrokeshire, Cairngorms, Northumberland, Pembrokeshire coast, Norfolk Broads and New Forest.)

HERITAGE SITE OF THE YEAR Nominated by John Craven, is Dunluce Castle, competing against, Whitby, Pontcycllte aqueduct, Hadrians Wall, and Stokesay Castle. John Craven has filmed here in the Borough, and it was only a few years ago he was on Downhill beach filming an episode of the Countryfile programme.

Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Michelle Knight McQuillan said, “What this means for the area, is that not only does BBC promote it during the shortlisting on TV and Radio, but there is a real chance of winning this, and having people consider coming here who might not have before.

“It also means that the work and investment that the Council and Central Government has put into the area, is now being recognised and coming to fruition by attracting visitors and investors, and making this a real place to enjoy living in.

“We are the only shortlisted category from Northern Ireland, and I am calling on the whole country to come in and support us to win both these awards.

“We only have a few days left to make our vote, as it closes on 31st January 2016. So go on line and vote now”!

To Vote, everyone needs to go online to the countryfile website www.countryfile.com/awards2015-16, or fill out and return the details in the countryfile magazine.  It’s only one entry per vote, but get your family and friends involved and vote now!  Information and links are also on Council’s facebook – causewaycoastandglenscouncil.
