Volunteers’ Week takes place from 1st to 7th June, and Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, in partnership with Causeway and Limavady Volunteer Centres, will mark the occasion with a series of celebratory events recognising the outstanding contribution volunteers make to communities across Causeway Coast and Glens.

This year has also been designated by the United Nations as the Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development, highlighting the global importance of volunteering in building stronger, more resilient societies.

Welcoming Volunteers’ Week, Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Oliver McMullan, said: “Volunteers play a vital role in sustaining our communities, and their commitment and dedication to helping others is truly remarkable. Across many areas of community life, volunteers step forward to make a difference -supporting the vulnerable, caring for the environment, assisting in times of crisis, and strengthening the very fabric of our society.

“From helping at local foodbanks and mentoring young people, to coaching children’s sports, organising community events, or simply offering a listening ear, every act of volunteering - no matter how small it may seem - creates a powerful ripple effect of kindness.

“It is important that we take time to recognise and celebrate our local volunteers and all those who make a positive difference. I look forward to meeting volunteers from across Causeway Coast and Glens at our events during Volunteers’ Week.”

The events will take place during Volunteers’ Week as follows:

  • Monday 1st June – Limavady Community Development Initiative, Limavady, 6pm–8pm
  • Tuesday 2nd June – The Lodge Hotel, Coleraine, 11am–1pm
  • Wednesday 3rd June – Ballymoney Town Hall, Ballymoney, 6pm–8pm
  • Thursday 4th June – The Marine Hotel, Ballycastle, 12pm–2pm

Community and voluntary organisations, along with local clubs, are invited to nominate up to three members from their group to attend an event.
