The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has congratulated all those green fingered and dedicated council staff who helped Coleraine achieve its third consecutive win in the Ulster in Bloom Awards 2024.

Coleraine once again secured the Best Large Town accolade - having previously won in 2022 and again in 2023 - while Ballymoney was awarded runner-up in the Best Town category.

In an event hosted at Old Market House, Bangor, the popular horticultural competition celebrated the fantastic work of committed gardening enthusiasts across the country and officially recognised the most beautiful plant and floral displays across local cities, towns and villages.

Expressing his pride at the awards success, the Mayor, Councillor Ciarán McQuillan said: “We are simply delighted that Coleraine has once again retained its title as the overall winner in the Best Large Town category. This amazing and continued success is down to the commitment and expertise of our Estates team, who work all year round to ensure the town is alive with colour, creating a positive and welcoming environment for the local community and visitors alike.

“These wonderful floral displays also have a very positive impact by supporting biodiversity, conservation and sustainability, improving the quality of life for our citizens.

“Congratulations must also go to those involved in helping Ballymoney secure the second-place spot in the Best Town category. Everyone should be very proud of what they have achieved and on behalf of Council I want to thank you all for your efforts.”

Speaking at the results event, Translink’s John Thompson, said: “Ulster in Bloom celebrates not only the hard work and commitment of our local Councils, but also the many volunteers and community groups who are out all year round making their community spaces look tidy, welcoming and engaging for residents and visitors alike.

“Over the years we’ve seen amazing examples of how something as simple as seeds, water and elbow grease can transform spaces, with everything from floral displays, growing allotments for young and old, and bee hives to boost biodiversity.”
