Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council is marking Breastfeeding Awareness Month by reaffirming its commitment to creating welcoming and supportive environments for breastfeeding mothers across the Borough.

As part of its commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing of local families, Council continues to promote its Breastfeeding Policy and participation in the ‘Breastfeeding Welcome Here’ initiative, ensuring that mothers feel confident and comfortable breastfeeding in Council buildings and facilities.

The policy supports employees, residents and visitors, recognising the important health, social and emotional benefits that breastfeeding brings to both mothers and babies.

Council is also committed to supporting employees who wish to continue breastfeeding when they return to work, including those who need to express milk during the working day.

Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Dawn Huggins, said:

"Breastfeeding Awareness Month provides an important opportunity to highlight the support available to mothers and families across our Borough.

“We want every mother to feel welcome and comfortable when accessing Council services or visiting our facilities, knowing that they can breastfeed with confidence in a respectful and inclusive environment.”

Causeway Coast and Glens Diversity Champion, Councillor Cara McShane added: “Breastfeeding should be a normal and welcomed part of family life, and no mother should feel uncomfortable or unwelcome when feeding her baby in a public space.

“As Diversity Champion, I’m pleased to see Council continuing to promote inclusive environments where mothers and families feel respected, supported and able to access our services with confidence.”

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council's Breastfeeding Policy applies across its workplaces and public-facing facilities, helping to ensure that breastfeeding mothers are welcomed and supported whether they are employees, residents or visitors.
