Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, in partnership with Benbradagh Day Centre and Rossmar School Limavady, is continuing to share powerful stories through its Do You See Me? campaign, celebrating the individuality, talents and aspirations of people with learning disabilities across the Borough.
Through a series of short videos, local people share their interests, achievements, ambitions and personal experiences, encouraging others to see the person first and recognise that a learning disability is only one part of who they are.
The campaign was developed as part of Learning Disability Week and aims to promote greater understanding, inclusion and respect throughout our communities. By providing a platform for participants to share their stories, the campaign highlights the unique talents, contributions and experiences that make each person who they are.
Council's Diversity Ambassador, Councillor Cara McShane, welcomed the campaign and said: "Too often people are defined by their disability rather than recognised for who they are as individuals. 'Do You See Me?' is about changing that perspective. It is about listening to people's stories, celebrating their talents and recognising that everyone has dreams, interests and goals.
"I hope this campaign encourages people to look beyond labels and appreciate the unique contribution that people with learning disabilities make to our communities every day."
Participants share what matters most to them, what they enjoy doing and what they would like others to know about their lives, helping to challenge perceptions and build a more inclusive Borough where everyone feels seen, valued and respected.
Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council remains committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion and recognises the importance of ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate fully in community life.
The Do You See Me? videos are available on the Council's social media channels.
Everyone has a story. Everyone deserves to be seen.
