Residents in Millburn are reaping the benefits of a project delivered by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.

The intergenerational programme, delivered in partnership with Council’s Good Relations Programme, Age Friendly Causeway and Millburn Community Development Limited, brought grandparents and grandchildren together for shared activities in the community.

Over the eight-week programme, participants shared memories of growing up in different decades, while taking part in activities such as baking, art, crafts and game, creating opportunities for young and old to learn from one another.

Sara Glendinning, Good Relations Officer at Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, said: “This project demonstrates the positive impact that intergenerational work can have within our communities. By creating shared spaces for young and older people to connect, we help break down stereotypes, build understanding and strengthen relationships in a meaningful and lasting way.”

Stephanie Scott, Age Friendly Officer with Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, added: “Intergenerational initiatives like this reflect the core principles of an Age Friendly community - promoting social participation, respect and inclusion at every stage of life. It has been encouraging to see the relationships develop week by week and to witness the mutual learning between generations.”

Billy Ellis, Manager of Millburn Community Development Limited, said: “We have seen real friendships form over the past eight weeks. The sessions have been relaxed, enjoyable and full of laughter, with both grandparents and grandchildren sharing their experiences and skills. The feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive.”
