Exciting new season unveiled at Flowerfield and Roe Valley arts centres

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council's Arts Service is thrilled to announce the release of their latest Arts Guide, presenting a captivating blend of creative opportunities and cultural highlights at Flowerfield Arts Centre, Portstewart and Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre, Limavady.
This vibrant guide will lead you through a journey of inspiration, entertainment and connection that extends into the upcoming year.
From September to December 2023, prepare to be immersed in an array of engaging live music events, enriching exhibitions, immersive workshops and festive celebrations that will delight audiences of all ages. The Arts Guide showcases a dynamic mix of live performances, workshops, and special events that are set to ignite the spirit of the community.
Live Performances
Flowerfield Arts Centre becomes a haven for music enthusiasts this autumn, hosting captivating performances by renowned artists. Expect to be mesmerized by the folk trio Trú (15th September) and the mesmerizing Irish Trad quintet Goitse (6th October) in association with Moving on Music. Join NI Pianist Cahal Masterson as he celebrates 190 years of Brahms on 27th October, followed by the much-anticipated return of Anthony Toner with "Ghost Notes. Vol. 2" (9th December). Experience the enchanting sounds of Ferna (aka Hannah McPhillimy) as she graces the stage with her critically acclaimed debut album "Understudy" (15th December).
Meanwhile, Roe Valley Arts Centre is once again the place to be for live performances from acclaimed performers such as Hothouse Flowers (20th October), Onoir (22nd September), and The Illegals (23rd September). Prepare to be captivated by the enchanting Scottish/Canadian folk and americana song-writer Sarah Jane Scouten (16th November), supported by local performer Benjamin Amos and get into the festive spirit with the captivating musical experience "A Country Christmas with Stars”.
A World of Family Entertainment
Families are in for a treat as they immerse themselves in a world of entertainment at both centres. Feel the adrenaline rush with Superstar Wrestling and enjoy the enchanting world of Limavady Drama Group's "Sleeping Beauty”. Banyan Theatre's production of "The Elves and the Shoemaker" promises to captivate young hearts, while Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company introduces a brand new production, "Winter's Dream”, tailored for local school audiences.
Exhibitions That Ignite Thought
At Roe Valley Arts Centre, the galleries come alive with thought-provoking exhibitions. "Testimony" by Lesley Cherry (7 – 28 October) offers a visual response to women's truths, stories, and memories. In November, the arts centre hosts "Real Lives: The Art of Living with Dementia" (in association with Dementia NI), featuring photography and patchwork quilts created by Dementia NI members. The exhibition coincides with a creative workshop for those living with dementia and their family members. Meanwhile, Flowerfield Arts Centre presents a selected retrospective exhibition of work by the renowned Coleraine-born artist John Johnson (1957 – 2019).
A Space for Creativity and Connection
Flowerfield Arts Centre introduces "Mums Meet and Make”, a creative series designed for new mothers with infants under one year old. These workshops provide an opportunity to combat isolation, foster community, and spark creativity, all while allowing mothers to enjoy much-needed ‘me time’.
As well as this series, Flowerfield & Roe Valley Arts Centres have packed programmes of creative workshops for adults and children, in fused glass, ceramics, painting, movement, and craft, including some workshops with a festival flavour as we head towards Christmas.
Halloween and Christmas Magic
As autumn approaches, get ready for the spine-tingling excitement of the Halloween Haunted Open Days at both centres. Dive into the Halloween spirit with family films, creepy craft workshops, spooky storytelling, and even a monster mash dance workshop with Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company. As the festive cheer fills the air, mark your calendars for the Christmas Craft Market at Flowerfield Arts Centre (11 November – 21 December), presenting exquisite pieces crafted by artisans from the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough., Roe Valley Arts Centre hosts a one-day pop-up Christmas Craft Fair featuring creations by the emerging collective Maker's Tribe on 18th November.
