Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Good Relations Team is marking International Women’s Day with a virtual international café-style event.

Working with Stephanie Mitchell from The Friendship Club, the event on Tuesday 9th March at 7pm will celebrate unity in diversity. Participants will explore commonality and the collective challenges women have faced locally and globally, particularly over the last year due to the pandemic.

Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Alderman Mark Fielding said: “This year’s International Women’s Day encourages us all to ‘choose to challenge’ and this session will provide a space to meet women from a diverse range of backgrounds and learn about their cultures and shared experiences. Following on from the official launch of Council’s Women’s Working Group it’s important that we mark International Women’s Day and facilitate these important discussions.”

Good Relations Officer Bebhinn McKinley added: “It’s vital not only as part of International Women’s Day, but throughout the year, to have forums where women can come together, to share, to learn and support each other.

“By having these conversations we can celebrate our differences and similarities and show how our unity in diversity gives us collective strength.”

International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.  The worldwide event sees groups come together to celebrate women's achievements and support equality.

The campaign theme for International Women's Day 2021 is #ChoosetoChallenge.
