Forest Service have advised Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council that all harvesting operations in Garvagh Forest will cease during the period Wednesday 24th December 2025 – Sunday 4th January 2026. Work will recommence on Monday 5th January 2026.

Visitors to the forest should be aware that many of the forest roads are mucky and uneven in places, due to the impact of heavy haulage lorries extracting timber. Extra care should be taken and appropriate footwear worn.

On Friday 19th, Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd December 2025, and when the work recommences in January, the section of forest road outlined in red on the map below will be closed to public access.

Forest Service and Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council wish to remind visitors to Garvagh Forest to stay off timber stacks in the forest.

Why it is important:

  • Stability: Timber stacks aren't meant as play structures; they can easily become unstable
  • Serious Risk: A falling log can cause severe injury or death
