To highlight health and safety risks to new and inexperienced employees in the workplace, Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council works in partnership with Councils from across Northern Ireland and the Health and Safety Executive Northern Ireland (HSENI). The HSENI statistics show how young and inexperienced recruits, new to a workplace are three times more likely to be injured, than their more experienced workmates. Bryan Edgar, Head of Health and the Built Environment at Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council commented, “Young and inexperienced recruits who are new to a workplace are often unfamiliar with their new surroundings and the associated risks. They could also be reluctant to raise any concerns they have, being eager to impress their workmates and managers. “Officers from Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Health and Safety Department will visit businesses throughout the Borough.
