The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens has recognised the inspiring work of Coleraine woman Erin Ferguson, who is using her modelling platform to champion women’s health and help improve period dignity and education for young girls.
Erin, a law graduate and former pupil of Loreto College, represented Ireland at the Miss Universe pageant in Dublin earlier this year.
She has used the experience she has gained throughout her own journey to raise awareness of women’s health and encourage more open conversations around issues that can often carry stigma.
Welcoming Erin and her proud parents, aunt and grandmother to a special reception this week, Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Dawn Huggins, praised her determination to turn her own experience into positive change for others.
“Erin is an exceptional young woman who is using her voice and her own experiences to make a real difference to others.
“She is a wonderful ambassador for Coleraine and for our Borough, and I am delighted to have the opportunity to recognise the passion and determination she has shown in championing women’s health.
“Through ‘The Red Line’, Erin is helping to break down the stigma surrounding periods and women’s health, while making sure that young girls have access to the information, products and support they need.
“What I find particularly inspiring is that Erin has taken something that can be difficult to talk about and turned it into an opportunity to educate, empower and support others.
“She is an excellent example of how one person can use their own experiences to inspire positive change, and I commend her for the difference she is already making.”
Through her initiative, ‘The Red Line’, Erin is working to ensure young girls have access to period products, accurate information and the support they need, while helping to break down some of the stigma surrounding periods and women’s health.
Erin will continue to champion women’s health through her platform and is set to compete again in the Diamond Ireland Pageants in May 2027.
Her passion for advocacy remains at the heart of her work, as she continues to use her platform to raise awareness, encourage conversation and help create a more supportive environment for young women.
