The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has held a reception to mark the efforts of Carey Historical Society.

Members of the group organised the hugely successful Bun na Margaí Festival of Heritage earlier this year which celebrated the integral role of the Friary in numerous historical events of local and national importance.

Speaking after the reception, the Mayor, Councillor Joan Baird OBE, said: “The group deserve commendation for their efforts in keeping the rich history of the area alive. Their passion and dedication is inspiring and will hopefully help to attract new visitors to Bun a Margai. The inaugural Festival was very well received, and I hope they are able to build on this success.”

The Festival, which was part of the European Heritage Open Day weekend, featured guest speakers, poetry, music and guided tours.
