Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council is set to introduce a team of Environmental Enforcement Officers this month as part of a renewed effort to tackle dog fouling, littering and fly-tipping across the Borough.
From Monday 11th May 2026 Council will launch a new partnership with National Enforcement Solutions Group (NES), a private enforcement company, to address environmental crime, including littering offences and illegal dumping.
Their work will ensure a visible and community-focused approach to improving local areas for residents and visitors alike.
Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Oliver McMullan said: “Everyone has a part to play in keeping our area clean and safe.
“There is no excuse for littering, dog fouling or fly-tipping. These behaviours damage our environment and impact the quality of life for everyone.
“The introduction of the Officers sends a clear message that this Council is serious about tackling these issues.”
Sharon McAfee, Head of Health and Built Environment of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council said: “We will be delighted to see our new team of seven Enforcement Officers on the ground in the coming weeks. They will work in partnership with our current team of Environmental Wardens.
“This new initiative is not simply about catching people committing offences and issuing fines; it is about changing behaviours.
“Littering and allowing your dog to foul are unacceptable in any community, and we all have a responsibility to take pride in where we live.
“The new officers have undertaken intensive training and are ready to engage with local communities and respond quickly to reports of littering, dog fouling and fly-tipping.”
