New Organ Donation Information Point at Air Waves Portrush
Tue, September 01, 2015
Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, working in partnership with the Northern Health and Social Care Trust and NHS Blood and Transplant have issued details of its information point at Council’s air show event, Air Waves Portrush on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th September. The air show which attracted upwards of 180,000 people to the area over the weekend last year, will take place again this year at East Strand, Portrush. Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, the Northern Health and Social Care Trust and NHS Blood and Transplant will be present at the Lansdowne area throughout the weekend. They will be providing information on organ donation and transplantation, aiming to encourage people to talk about organ donation with family and close friends so they are aware of their wishes, to increase awareness of the organ donor register and how to sign up, and to increase the number of people in Northern Ireland on the organ donor register. Pearl Mahon, Health and Well-Being Officer at Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council said, “Council aims to use this opportunity to increase awareness about organ donation and transplantation. The air show is a great event, which attracts visitors from all over the province and beyond. ”Council is pleased to work in partnership with the Northern Health and Social Care Trust and NHS Blood and Transplant to help raise awareness on the need for more organ donors. ”In July 2015, only 34% of Northern Ireland’s population were on the Organ Donation register. I’d therefore urge residents of the Borough, if you have not yet registered, please consider doing so by visiting the Organ Donor stand at Air Waves Portrush.’ For further details on Organ Donation or National Transplant Week, which will take place from 7th until 13th September 2015 visit www.organdonationni.info.
