OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE ARK AT BENONE STRAND

As the summer season approaches, Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has officially opened The Ark, a new purpose built beach facility at Benone Strand. 

Funded through the European INTERREG IVA Programme, The Ark provides a welcome improvement to visitor facilities at one of the country’s most popular beaches.  The project has been delivered as part of Loughs Agency’s Marine Tourism and Angling Development project in partnership with Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.

Located at the beach entrance The Ark provides new toilet, shower and changing facilities which reflect public expectation when visiting the coast.  The new facility has been developed with a strong emphasis on sustainability given its location within Magilligan Special Area of Conservation.

Speaking at the opening of The Ark, Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Michelle Knight-McQuillan said, “I’m delighted to see the development of The Ark at Benone Strand.  These new facilities reflect how the expectation of visitors has changed with regard to our celebrated beaches.

“I hope that this new facility will further promote the area as a year round outdoor playground.  Council is indebted to the Special EU Programmes Body for providing the necessary funding and to Loughs Agency for facilitating the development through its Marine Tourism Strategy and Action Plan.”
