The meeting brought together members of the Older People's Forum, COAST, Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council- Age Friendly and Council’s Age Friendly Champion, Councillor Tanya Elder.
Held at the Lodge Hotel, the session provided an opportunity for forum members to hear updates on current initiatives, discuss issues affecting older people, and contribute their views on future priorities.
Discussions focused on topics including transport, social connection, physical activity, access to information and opportunities to support people to remain active, independent and connected within their communities.
Participants also contributed ideas to help shape future health and wellbeing initiatives.
The meeting highlighted the value of partnership working between community organisations, Council and older people themselves.
Stephanie Scott, Age Friendly Officer with Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, said: "One of the strengths of the Age Friendly Programme is the opportunity to work alongside organisations such as COAST and, most importantly, to listen directly to older people.
“The discussions were extremely valuable and will help inform future priorities, programmes and partnership working. I would like to thank everyone who attended and shared their views so openly."
Councillor Tanya Elder, Age Friendly Champion, added: “It was a pleasure to meet members of the Older People's Forum and hear first-hand about the issues that matter most to them. Older people bring a wealth of experience, knowledge and insight, and it is important that their voices continue to help shape local priorities and decision-making. I look forward to supporting this work and strengthening opportunities for older people to be involved."
Tori Lowbridge, COAST Manager, added: “It was encouraging to see such positive discussion and a genuine willingness from participants to share their experiences and ideas.”
