CCGBC MURAL DERVOCK 22

Twelve new murals at Knock Road celebrate the village's rich heritage.

Among them is a tribute to William McKinley, the 25th President of the United States, whose ancestral roots can be traced to Dervock. Other murals commemorate the sacrifices of the First World War and honour renowned author C.S. Lewis.

Members of Dervock Young Defenders, Dervock Community Association and Dervock LOL 534 worked together to transform the site into a vibrant community space.

The murals were officially unveiled during a special ceremony attended by elected representatives, the Neighbourhood Policing Team, Northern Ireland Housing Executive staff, representatives from the Causeway PCSP, Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council's Good Relations team and members of the local community.

Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Dawn Huggins said: “These wonderful murals are a fantastic addition to Dervock and provide a lasting celebration of the village’s rich heritage and strong community spirit.

"Through the support of the Policing and Community Safety Partnership, areas that had been affected by anti-social behaviour have been transformed into vibrant public spaces that tell the story of Dervock’s past while promoting positive messages for the future.

"From recognising the ancestral roots of President William McKinley to commemorating those who served in the First World War and sharing inspiring words of peace from C.S. Lewis, these murals create a real sense of place and pride.

"I would like to commend everyone involved in bringing this project to life and thank the local community for their commitment to enhancing and celebrating their village."

Jonny Donaghy, PCSP Manager, said: “PCSP are very pleased to support this initiative which demonstrates the positive impact of partnership working in addressing local issues.

The transformation of these spaces into murals is a clear example of how communities, supported by PCSP funding and multi-agency collaboration, can foster pride, respect, and shared ownership.

This project reflects our ongoing commitment to promoting safer, more cohesive communities across the borough.”

Matthew, Project Coordinator, said: We would like to thank the PCSP for the funding and the statutory agencies for their support.

We have reimaged an area in the village that was causing issues and was an eyesore for residents and passing tourists alike. These murals promote our heritage, culture and promote the local area.

The project partners would like to extend their sincere thanks to Spartan Graphics for the creative designs and Signs NI for producing the mural panels, whose expertise helped bring the project to life.
