Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council's team were at Coleraine Grammar yesterday talking to children involved in "The Road to The Open" project.
This inspiring project aims to provide local opportunities for children & young people across Northern Ireland from all backgrounds.
Kevin Barker, Director of Golf Development at The R&A, said: "While the staging of The Open will provide a positive economic impact to Northern Ireland, we also want to ensure that a lasting legacy is provided to local communities in the form of the many social and health and wellbeing benefits that playing golf can offer.
“Our goal is to make golf an option for everyone by supporting pathways into the sport through activities offered at schools and local clubs.”
R&A representatives are this week delivering tailored workshops to Primary, High School, University students/young adults. The workshop content covers the history of The Open, the importance of golf in Portrush/N.I., and careers in golf, as well as activities based around changing perceptions and attracting young people into the sport.
