Ballymoney's new 3G pitch hosted its first summer Soccer Fun Week earlier this month.

The recently opened facility provided the ideal surroundings for young players to develop their skills under the guidance of IFA qualified coaches.

The soccer initiative has been part of the summer sports programme in Ballymoney for 19 years, but this is the first time that a 3G pitch has been available for use.

The course, which is co-ordinated by John Fall and Simon Smyth from Ballymoney United Youth Academy, offers aspiring young footballers the opportunity to enjoy top-class coaching in a fun environment. Throughout the week, 80 participants aged between 4 and 12 took part in a planned programme of skills development, drills and small-sided games.

Commenting on the success of this year's course, the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Joan Baird OBE, said: "It is fantastic to see so many young people enjoying this new facility in Ballymoney. It is a great asset to the town and wider area, and will make a real difference to our sports clubs and their members. As a Council we are committed to providing first class recreational facilities, and I'm delighted to see this new pitch is now open for the community to enjoy."

The 3G pitch was completed earlier this year thanks to funding from the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure and Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council. Located close to the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre, it greatly enhances facilities in the town for a range of sports including soccer, Gaelic football, hurling and athletics.

Offering a quality playing surface and changing facilities, it is ideal for recreational activities and competitive action.

If your team is interested in booking the facility, or to find out more information, contact Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre by ringing 028 2766 0260.
