Flowerfield Arts Centre opened its doors to the public on Saturday 22nd July.

The Open Day offered local people and visitors the opportunity to explore both the Arts Centre and the beautiful park setting with plenty of free arts, crafts and activities on offer.

Featuring face-painters, balloon-modellers, poetry, story-telling and art exhibitions, Flowerfield was buzzing with activity with over 500 people in attendance.

The Arts Centre threw open its auditorium doors onto the park allowing picnickers to be treated to live music performances by Girona Orchestra, DJ Wes Discos, and Castlerock 10-piece jazz-swing band The Rhythm Rascals.

Shauna McNeilly, Community Arts Engagement Officer at Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, said: “The feedback to the event has been really positive with people of all ages commenting on how much they enjoyed the day. There was a real community spirit with lots of local artists and facilitators being involved and having fun with visitors.”

The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Joan Baird, OBE spoke about the day saying: “I was delighted to attend the Open Day at Flowerfield Arts Centre. The afternoon was a fantastic opportunity for families to see what the facility has to offer and to meet all the members of the team in a fun environment. I look forward to the next Open Day!”

Opening its doors again with the next Teddy Bears Picnic on Saturday 26th August from 12pm- 3pm, Flowerfield will offer families another chance to picnic on the lawn and engage in creative activities.
