Roe Valley Arts & Cultural Centre presents a new solo exhibition by Belfast-based artist Lesley Cherry this October.

The exhibition, which runs from 7th -28th October is entitled ‘Testimony’ and is a visual response to a series of truths, stories and memories as told by a group of women from Belfast.

The group have worked with the visual artist for the past year and Cherry continues her socially engaged art by interpreting their fascinating stories of domesticity, empowerment, class, and culture through the bold use of pattern, found objects, text and mixed media.

Mixed mediums such as wallpaper and lace combine to tell the women’s stories with the artist employing an element of humour to the work, despite the serious issues being addressed.

Cherry studied at the University of Ulster, Belfast gaining her BA Hons in Fine & Applied Art, graduating from the Master of Fine Art course in 2011. She has received many accolades over the years and her work has been shown throughout Ireland, including The Golden Thread Galley, Belfast, VOID Derry, Artslink, Buncrana and Sligo Art Centre.

Testimony launches on Saturday, 7th October at 12 noon and everyone is welcome.
