Tourism Event Recovery Fund update
Thu, June 10, 2021
Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council can confirm it is progressing the roll-out of its Tourism Event Recovery Fund.
The matter was considered at the annual meeting on Monday 7th June 2021 where the recommendation to progress the grant fund was approved..
The fund was set up to assist external event organisers with running their event in full or in a reduced capacity in this challenging year, as well as those who postponed their plans due to the continuing impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Welcoming the decision to move forward with the fund, Mayor, Councillor Richard Holmes said: “The events calendar across Causeway Coast and Glens is one of our key assets and it’s crucial that we give our utmost support to established event organisers as we continue to recover from the coronavirus crisis.
“The events which will benefit from this fund deliver huge economic and social benefits for our borough. As an example, an independent assessment in 2018 found that the North West 200 alone generated £10m economic impact for the borough. Taken collectively, these events make a huge contribution overall and it is imperative that we do all we can to assist them during these unprecedented times.
“The creation of the Tourism Events Recovery Fund signals our commitment to the borough’s events sector, and we want to ensure that it emerges from the pandemic with renewed vibrancy and resilience.”
